The Center Initiative for Training International Researchers (CITIR) of the University of Toyama will promote human capital development for research that is multidisciplinary, innovative, interactive and international in nature. With its concept of ‘borderless laboratories’ CITIR will work closely with graduate schools and research centers at the Gofuku, Sugitani and Takaoka campuses to assist them to recruit talented young researchers (graduate students and post-docs) from ASEAN and Global South, and mentor them to become Principal Investigators and leading scientists in the future.
CITIR will be a “bridge” to identify and assist graduate schools and research centers in partnering with international universities to increase staff-student mobility, double degree programs and research internship programs. The partnering is expected to promote collaborative multidisciplinary research, which could lead to innovative and patentable cutting-edge discoveries of significant translational value to the global community.
To ensure productive engagement and to strengthen research capacity with partner universities, CITIR will host visiting researchers, international symposiums, technical workshops and summer schools. The Organization for International Education and Exchange(OIEE), along with International Affairs Division and the Organization for the Promotion of Research will support CITIR in its efforts to promote the university’s global expansion and mission to produce skilled human capital.
