Message from the Director

Director
Prof. SAITO Shigeru
President of University of Toyama

Philosophy of University of Toyama:

“University of Toyama upholds a global standard of education and research integrated with the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and life sciences open to the regional community and to the world. The university will nurture our students with a strong sense of mission and creativity based on the respect for human dignity. We will make contributions to the local, regional and international community, and will promote the harmonious development of science, art and culture, society and the natural environment.”

Guided by this philosophy, our faculty and staff members work closely together to promote high-quality education, top-level research and social activities.

Social challenges such as the Sustainable Development Goals, carbon neutrality and globalization are what we focus on addressing with our existing knowledge combined with “new knowledge”.

Our university has been establishing centers and restructuring organizational frameworks that will serve as the foundation for promoting our unique and world-class research. Now, we plan to advance to the next stage by increasing international researcher exchanges, develop active international joint research, which will bolster our academic foundation and governing philosophy.

In an effort to uphold our governing philosophy, we have established the “Center Initiative for Training International Researchers (CITIR)” in 2024, which is the new international hub at the University of Toyama to support our roadmap to globalization.

In addition, we are delighted to have Professor Ishwar Singh Parhar, who has extensive experience in international networking, international joint research and a distinguished research record, as Chief Director of CITIR. With Prof. Ishwar’s guidance and support we hope to accelerate the development of international joint research and nurture talented skillful young researchers by building an effective internal network as well as expanding our international network.
